Projector Ceiling Mount Guide
Ceiling mount kit or motorized lift — how to choose, and what to check before you drill.
Ceiling Mount Kit vs Projector Lift
A projector ceiling mount kit fixes the projector in a permanently visible position on the ceiling — the simpler, more common option for classrooms, offices and most home installs. A projector lift instead conceals the projector inside the ceiling void and lowers it into position only when in use, which suits rooms where a visible projector isn't wanted.
Positioning the Mount Correctly
The mount's position is driven by your projector's throw ratio and your screen size — use the screen calculator's throw distance output to work out how far from the screen the projector needs to sit, then confirm that position aligns with a usable ceiling fixing point.
What a Ceiling Mount Kit Typically Adjusts
Most ceiling mount kits allow some fine adjustment — extension length, tilt and rotation — to correct for the mount not landing exactly at the ideal calculated position, and to square the image to the screen after installation.
Pairing With Motorized or Ceiling-Recessed Screens
If you're also installing a motorized or ceiling mounted screen, plan the projector mount and the screen housing together so both share a clean run of cabling and neither obstructs the other when the screen is extended.
