Projector Throw Distance
—
Viewing distance is a general guideline (roughly 1.5–2.5× screen width), not a manufacturer or standards-body spec. Throw distance = throw ratio × screen width, per your projector's own documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is projector screen size measured?
Projector screen size is measured on the diagonal, corner to corner — the same way TV sizes are measured. Width and height then follow from the diagonal and aspect ratio using the Pythagorean theorem.
What is throw ratio?
Throw ratio is a projector's throw distance divided by the resulting image width. It's listed in your projector's spec sheet — multiply it by your screen width to get the distance the projector needs to sit from the screen.
Which aspect ratio should I use?
Use 16:9 for HD/4K video content, 16:10 for some data/presentation projectors, 4:3 for older or presentation-oriented setups, or a custom ratio if your projector or content uses something else.
